Keep Australia Beautiful

Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland is the state's leading anti-litter organisation, formed in 1971 from the then Queensland Anti-Litter Committee.

Over the years we have developed and implemented a range or competitions, programs and publicity campaigns aimed at reducing litter and keeping Australia beautiful.

Our Adopt-a-Road program encourages volunteers to undertake coordinated litter clean-ups along the streets and roads in their communities.

Our competition programs, Ergon Energy Tidy Towns, Comalco Green & Healthy Schools and the Clean Beach Challenge, recognise and reward individuals, groups, schools and communities which tackle litter prevention and management for a cleaner, greener environment.

Our KAB EnviroEd Tours program provides students and teachers with the unique experience of learning about litter, waste management and greenhouse gases at a working landfill and power station in south east Queensland.

Keep Australia Beautiful is also working to reduce litter and waste in the building and construction industry through its Clean Site environmental education program.

In all of our programs, we work collaboratively with state, corporate and community stakeholders to maximise results.

To support and guide our anti-litter efforts, we undertake the National Litter Index, which sees teams of litter auditors conduct physical inspections of more than 150 sites around Australia to collect empirical data on litter and litter types across the country.

Using robust statistical modelling, the results from site surveys are extrapolated to provide a picture of litter in Queensland and Australia. This data is essential to improving environmental management and community littering behaviour.

In addition, we sell cigarette butt bins and personal ashtrays to enable smokers to do the right thing and dispose of butts appropriately.
